Unite with me in the cancer fight and support my fundraising efforts

No, it’s not a 12-step program. It’s time once again for the fifth annual fundraising drive on behalf of the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

This year, one of my favorite blogs, Fat Cyclist.com is organizing a team. Fatty (Elden) captures eloquently the trials of the family of a cancer patient. His family’s story is compelling and his writing moved me to join in an effort to have the most team members and raise the most money in all the LIVESTRONG Challenges in 2009.

Every year, more friends and family are diagnosed with cancer. Some fight and win, some fight and lose, but all fight. At work, we celebrated the return of hair to one colleague and mourned the loss of a daughter-in-law of another. My students share stories of losing a parent or the battles of a grandparent.

The odds of getting cancer are ridiculously high – 1 in 2 for men and 1 in 3 for women – and yet cancer itself is not nearly high enough on the priority list in this country and around the world. It’s high time to take cancer out and the Lance Armstrong Foundation is one of the best ways to help.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation unites people to fight cancer, believing that unity is strength, knowledge is power, and attitude is everything.

Through the dollars and awareness that we raise, we can inspire and empower individuals, and we can make life better for the millions of people across the globe fighting cancer today.
